What is Yoga?

Yoga originated in ancient India and is not a exercise program but rather a way of life, a lifestyle that brought "union" to the body, mind, and soul.  Ashtanga yoga consists of  and covers every aspect of your being.  Yoga as most people know it covers only two of the limbs Asanas (physical poses) and Pranayama (breathing) and are usually what you will find being taught in most classes.  These two limbs bring strength, focus, and flexibility to the body and mind allowing you to heal and revive.

Before you get started on Asasnas you will want to be prepared, here are some tips.

Preparation for your yoga practice:
  • Wait 4 hours after a heavy meal or 2 hours after light snack
  • Wear loose fitting clothes
  • Work on a mat or non-slip floor
  • Have necessary props in reach such as blocks, straps and bolsters
  • Remove contact lenses
  • Clear you mind and stay in the moment
